I assumed that where I stayed would be a practical decision depending on the distance and price. That changed after I arrived.

I could plan visits to the historic areas around the Padmanabhaswamy Temple, spend an afternoon in the markets and later head towards Kovalam.

Staying in an area with good connectivity can make a noticeable difference, especially when you want to explore the city without spending most of your day commuting.

The best part of staying in Vazhuthacaud was probably the evenings. After spending the whole day visiting different attractions, I didn’t always want another busy outing. Some evenings, I simply walked around the neighbourhood, found something to eat, and enjoyed the slower pace.

I enjoyed the greenery, convenient location, residential surroundings and easy access to cultural attractions. It provided a comfortable base from which I could explore the city without feeling rushed.

For me, Vazhuthacaud got that balance just right. It’s not necessarily the first area I would have picked before visiting, but after experiencing the city from there, it’s the one I’d return to.
